GLISTENING GUITAR INSTRUMENTALS BOOK

My second book, Glistening Guitar Instrumentals, is in progress and I will let you know when it is ready.

It follows in the footsteps of Shimmering Ukulele Instrumentals.

There will be 20 pieces in the book, for guitar groups and music teachers. They will be written in 3 or 4 parts, in notation and tab.

With groups larger than 3 or 4, multiple players can play parts. If there are only two players available you can choose two parts.

For variety, certain parts could be played by other instruments, such as melodies played by flute, violin etc.. You can use your imagination to create lovely instrumental combinations. Not to mention percussion !

The easier pieces will be first in the book and they will progress to slightly more challenging pieces throughout.

Some of these guitar pieces I wrote many years ago, so it will be wonderful that they will finally see the light of day. Others are fresh new ideas and still others are adaptations of some of the ukulele pieces.

Three of the pieces in the book are originally ukulele pieces featuring in Shimmering Ukulele Instrumentals. They are: Two Strings (Ukulele piece -Two String Thing), Pohutukawa Calm (Ukulele piece - Little Pohutukawa) and Swinging Summer (Ukulele piece - Summer Swing)

The book will be available in a printable pdf format. In addition, two other printable pdf versions will also be available – notation only + full scores and notation only with classical guitar fingering + full scores. The fingering is being done by Sasha Witten-Hannah, professional classical guitarist and member of our trio Acoustique.

I’m looking forward to sharing the book with you all in the near future.

Excerpts and descriptions of each piece

Each of the twenty pieces in the book are described below

with a link to the first minute of each recording.

Three of the pieces are originally ukulele pieces that have been adapted for guitar.

Swinging Summer (Ukulele piece - Summer Swing)

Two Strings (Ukulele piece - Two String Thing)

Pohutukawa Calm (Ukulele piece - Little Pohutukawa)

Here they are in the order presented in the book.

THREE NOTE MELODY

This piece has a classical feel to it, with the first two parts, melody and harmony being very easy. Originally created for beginner guitar students. The two parts have only three notes within the part, hence the name. The third part is a countermelody that plays over the top creating a nice contrast. The accompaniment comes in towards the end to fill out the sound. This piece is called Three Notes in the ukulele book.
